Gatunek występujący w środkowej Europie, Holandii, południowej, części Fennoskandii i w Karelskiej ASRR, wykazany nadto z Mandżurii. W Polsce chrząszcz nadzwyczaj rzadki, od niedawna znany tylko z dwu stanowisk. Dawne, ogólnikowe wzmianki o występowaniu w Galicji i Polsce opierały się na znaleziskach będących obecnie poza naszymi granicami. Na ogół rzadko i sporadycznie poławiany gatunek torfowiskowy, niekiedy lokalnie występuje gromadnie. Znajdowany w wilgotnej warstwie mchów na pobrzeżach moczarów torfowiskowych.
