Taxon description
Gatunek rozsiedlony w niemal całej Europie, zwłaszcza w jej części wschodniej, nie występujący w skrajnych obszarach północnych i nadatlantyckich; notowany ponadto z Azji Mniejszej. W Polsce znany z nielicznych stanowisk w sześciu tylko krainach. W zależności od położenia geograficznego jednoroczny rozwój, jak we Francji, może się przedłużyć do lat trzech, jak w Finlandii. Jako drzewa żywicielskie wymieniano wierzbę białą — Salix alba L., topolę czarną — Populus nigra L. i topolę osikę — P. tremula L. Larwy żerują w obumierających lub martwych, ale pokrytych jeszcze korą pniach, oraz w grubszych gałęziach. Postacie dojrzałe występują zwykle w czerwcu i lipcu na drzewach lęgowych oraz na pniakach i ściętych pniach. Są poławiane na ogół rzadko i sporadycznie, gdyż najczęściej przebywają w koronach drzew.
