Taxon description
Gatunek szeroko rozprzestrzeniony od wschodniej Francji i północnych Włoch przez całą Europę Środkową i Wschodnią aż do Syberii (jako odrębny podgatunek) po Władywostok; w Europie na północ dochodzi w Fennoskandii do koła podbiegunowego. Wszędzie, również w Polsce, na ogół rzadko albo bardzo rzadko spotykany; znany u nas przeważnie z pojedynczych stanowisk w poszczególnych krainach, tylko ze Śląska Dolnego częściej notowany. Żyje na drzewach różnych gatunków z rodzaju brzoza — Betula L. Larwy żerują w gałęziach nadłamanych lub ściętych, a nawet w nadpalonych pożarem. Postacie dojrzałe są poławiane od maja do sierpnia na brzozach lub na krzewach pod nimi rosnących.
