Taxon description
Gatunek o niedostatecznie poznanym rozmieszczeniu, wykazywany głównie ze środkowej części Europy, notowany także z nielicznych stanowisk w Danii i południowej części Skandynawii. W Polsce jest to chrząszcz mało znany i bardzo rzadko znajdowany, notowany tylko z trzech krain. Zasiedla wyłącznie dęby w lasach o charakterze pierwotnym i zazwyczaj nie wywędrowuje ze swego obszaru leśnego. Rozwija się w wilgotnym, czerwonobrunatnym próchnie starych drzew, zwykle w dziuplach przy podstawie pni. Nie występuje w pieńkach ani pniach powalonych i kłodach leżących na ziemi. Cykl rozwojowy co najmniej trzyletni. Przepoczwarczenie następuje w sierpniu. Postacie dojrzałe po przezimowaniu ukazują się w maju i żyją do lipca, nie opuszczając w ciągu dnia swych kryjówek w dziuplach i szczelinach drzew.
