Taxon description
Aczkolwiek opisany przed przeszło 140 laty z Francji, z Jury i Alp Zachodnich, następnie w ciągu około 50 lat notowany z Alp francuskich, Pirenejów i Piemontu, później traktowany przez większość badaczy jako odmiana Ampedus elongatulus (Fabr.). Dopiero w 1972 roku stwierdzony w Europie Środkowej ze Słowacji, następnie od tego czasu wykazywany z Niemiec, Czech, Moraw, Austrii i północnych Włoch. Z Polski wykazany stosunkowo niedawno z ośmiu krain. Omawiany gatunek jest ściśle powiązany z lasami naturalnymi albo o charakterze pierwotnym. Rozwój larwalny odbywa w próchniejącej korze oraz w strefie zmurszałego łyka i powierzchniowej warstwy próchniejącego drewna, w pniach zarówno drzew stojących, jak i powalonych, głównie brzóz — Betula L. i jodły pospolitej — Abies alba Mill.
