Taxon description
Gatunek rozprzestrzeniony od Francji przez całą Europę Środkową aż do południowej strefy leśnej w europejskiej części ZSRR; notowany poza tym z Wielkiej Brytanii, Danii i południowej Szwecji. W Polsce jest chrząszczem bardzo rzadkim, znanym tylko z Gorzowa Wielkopolskiego i z południowej części kraju, jednak dane o występowaniu w Sudetach, oparte na znaleziskach z ubiegłego stulecia, wymagają potwierdzenia, gdyż mogą odnosić się do podobnego A. nigrinus (Herbst), gatunku częściej niż A. nigerrimus (Lac.) znajdowanego w górach. Występuje głównie w pierwotnych, wilgotnych lasach niżowych, w górach jest spotykany rzadko i sporadycznie. Zasiedla przyziemne dziuple, pieńki i złomy, znajdujące się w miejscach zacienionych. Przepoczwarczenie odbywa się w powierzchniowych warstwach próchna w okresie koniec sierpnia początek września. Pojaw postaci dojrzałych po przezimowaniu następuje w maju i chrząszcze przeżywają do lipca, w górach są spotykane jeszcze w sierpniu.
