Taxon description
Gatunek szeroko rozmieszczony w Palearktyce, notowany również jako importowany do Ameryki Północnej; rozpowszechniony w całej Europie aż do najdalszej północy. W Polsce występuje na całym obszarze. Zasiedla tereny nizinne i górzyste, docierając do górnej granicy lasu. Żyje na drzewach iglastych, na których odżywia się mszycami; przypadkowo bywa spotykany również na krzewach i drzewach liściastych. Na sośnie zwyczajnej niszczy mszyce należące do gatunku Pineus pini (Ratz.). Zimuje w ściółce liściastej i iglastej, zwłaszcza pod sosnami, których gałęzie sięgają do ziemi.
