Taxon description
Gatunek rozprzestrzeniony w Europie od krajów śródziemnomorskich aż do Wysp Brytyjskich, Danii i południowych prowincji Fennoskandii, notowany ponadto z Afryki Północnej i Syberii Zachodniej. W Polsce rozwiertek pospolity jest rozpowszechniony na całym niżu i na podgórzach, rzadko spotykany w górach, nie znany jeszcze z Kotliny Nowotarskiej, Pienin i Tatr. Gatunek polifagiczny, według różnych źródeł występujący na przeszło 20 drzewach i krzewach, zarówno liściastych, jak i iglastych. Opada strzały, pniaki i gałęzie do paru centymetrów średnicy. Cykl rozwojowy jednoroczny. Chrząszcze roją się w kwietniu-maju. Na 15-30 samic spotyka się zaledwie jednego samca. Samica drąży w drewnie chodnik wejściowy o średnicy około 1,5 mm i do głębokości kilku centymetrów wygryza różnej długości rozgałęzione chodniki macierzyste w trzech płaszczyznach.
