Taxon description
Gatunek szeroko rozprzestrzeniony w Europie i na Syberii, w Fennoskandii sięgający daleko poza koło podbiegunowe. Zarówno w Polsce, jak i w krajach sąsiednich wszędzie często spotykany na niżu i w górach; u nas nie znany jeszcze tylko z Tatr. Występuje w wilgotnych lasach liściastych, gajach, na zrębach, bagnach, torfowiskach i brzegach rzek i potoków. Żyje na olszy czarnej — Alnus glutinosa (L.) Gaertn., brzozie brodawkowatej — Betula verrucosa Ehrh. i brzozie omszonej — B. pubescens Ehrh. Samica składa jaja w nerw środkowy liścia, rzadziej w nerwy boczne. Larwa żeruje w minach liściowych, pod koniec wzrostu wycina naokoło końca miny część liścia, który spada na ziemię. Przepoczwarzenie następuje w komorze utworzonej przez połączone ze sobą części naskórka górnej i dolnej powierzchni liścia. Imagines poławiano głównie w maju i czerwcu, w zimie w ściółce liściastej przy podstawie drzew.
