Taxon description
Gatunek rozprzestrzeniony niemal w całej Europie (nie znany z Półwyspu Iberyjskiego i Bałkańskiego), sięgający na północy daleko poza koło podbiegunowe, a na wschód po Syberię Wschodnią, Azję Mniejszą i Bliski Wschód. Występuje w Polsce na obszarze całego kraju prócz wyższych partii górskich, nie jest jednak jeszcze wykazany z niektórych krain. Zamieszkuje zarówno wilgotne, chłodne biotopy, jak również suche, ciepłe stanowiska. Poławiano go w ogrodach, na pobrzeżach lasu, w dolinach rzecznych, zaroślach na łąkach oraz nasłonecznionych zboczach. Jako rośliny żywicielskie bywają podawane czeremcha zwyczajna — Padus avium Mill., czereśnia — Cerasus avium (L.) Moench., wiśnia karłowata — Cerasus fruticosa (Pall.) Woronow i wiśnia wonna — C. mahaleb (L.) Miller. Począwszy od drugiej połowy kwietnia samice składają jaja do pączków kwiatowych, a już w drugiej połowie maja ukazują się pierwsze młode chrząszcze na drzewach, gdzie żerują na liściach, wygryzając w nich okienkowate otwory; następnie w czerwcu wywędrowują w poszukiwaniu kryjówek na przezimowanie — w szczeliny kory, pod opadłe listowie i w ściółkę.
