Taxon description
Gatunek rozsiedlony głównie w strefie subalpejskiej i alpejskiej prawie wszystkich gór Europy środkowej i południowej (Pireneje, Alpy, Apeniny, Karpaty). W Polsce zasiedla Tatry na wysokościach mniej więcej od 1200 do 2000 m n.p.m. oraz Babią Górę. Doniesienie F. Hildta (1896) o znalezieniu go w Zakopanem (wysokość około 800-1000 m n.p.m.) opiera się prawdopodobnie na okazie zniesionym wodami z wyżej położonego stanowiska, natomiast wzmianka o stanowisku w Skierniewicach, na Nizinie Mazowieckiej wydaje się być niewiarygodna. Poławiany najczęściej w czerwcu i lipcu w odchodach owiec, kozic i świstaków, niekiedy także w próchnicy wśród korzeni roślin zielnych i traw.
