Taxon description
Gatunek zamieszkujący nizinne obszary leśne oraz górzyste w Europie środkowej i w północnej części Europy południowej. W Polsce na ogół rzadko i sporadycznie spotykany. Z. Stebnicka (1976, 1976b) podaje, że był wykazany z Babiej Góry i okolic Krakowa — dane te oparte były jednak na materiałach niepublikowanych (Z. Stebnicka*). Łowiony w kwietniu i maju oraz we wrześniu i październiku w ekskrementach dzikich zwierząt, zwłaszcza jeleni, niekiedy także wśród rozkładających się szczątków roślinnych oraz w odchodach bydła, koni i owiec.
