Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1983:
Gatunek zamieszkujący całą północną i środkową część Europy (w Europie południowej na izolowanych stanowiskach górskich na Półwyspie Iberyjskim, we Włoszech północnych i Jugosławii), sięgający na wschód po północną i środkową część Azji; wykazywany również z Ameryki Północnej. W Polsce występuje od Bałtyku po Tatry; spotykany w dużych kompleksach leśnych, częściej na podgórzu i w górach niż na terenach nizinnych. Postacie dorosłe po przezimowaniu pojawiają się w maju; poławiane są w odchodach bydła, owiec i dzikich zwierząt. Larwy znajdowano w ekskrementach jeleni.
