Taxon description
Gatunek zamieszkujący południową, zachodnią i środkową część Europy, notowany też ze Szwecji, gdzie dociera do koła podbiegunowego, a na wschód przez Syberię osiągający wybrzeże Oceanu Spokojnego; wykazywany ponadto z Algierii. W Polsce rozpowszechniony od Bałtyku aż po Tatry. Postacie dojrzałe poławiano, od kwietnia do sierpnia, na różnych gatunkach wierzb, jak wierzba biała — Salix alba L., wierzba migdałowa — S. amygdalina L., wierzba krucha — S. fragilis L., wierzba purpurowa — S. purpurea L., wierzba iwa — S. caprea L. i wierzba szara — S. cinerea L. Larwy żerują w wyroślach wywołanych żerem larw błonkówek z rodziny Tenthredinidae — Pontania proxima Lap., P. vesicator Brem., P. carpentieri Konow i P. viminalis (L.). W jednym galasie może rozwijać się wiele larw omawianego ryjkowca. Dojrzałe larwy wydostają się przez otwory wygryzione w ściance galasu do ziemi, gdzie odbywają przepoczwarczenie.
