Taxon description
Gatunek rozpowszechniony prawie w całej Europie do około 70° szer. geogr.; wykazywany nadto z południowej części Syberii Zachodniej, Azji Mniejszej i Syrii. W Polsce występuje w całym kraju z wyjątkiem wyższych partii górskich. Występuje głównie w lasach liściastych i mieszanych, niekiedy na terenach przyleśnych, w parkach i ogrodach; notowany również z pól uprawnych, wilgotnych pastwisk i łąk. Cykl rozwojowy co najmniej czteroletni. Larwy żyją w glebie, ściółce, pod mchem i kamieniami, w leżącym na ziemi zbutwiałym drewnie. Z powodu obgryzania korzeni i kiełków roślin są uważane w pewnych okolicach za szkodniki. Przepoczwarczenie następuje w lipcu-sierpniu. Postacie dojrzałe po przezimowaniu w komorach poczwarkowych ukazują się w maju i przeżywają do sierpnia. Poławiane są zwykle na niskich roślinach.
