Szeroko rozpowszechniony gatunek zachodniopalearktyczny, obejmuje zasięgiem północną Afrykę, południową, zachodnią i środkową część Europy oraz południową część Skandynawii, notowany również z Kaukazu, Azji Mniejszej i zachodniej Syberii. Żyje na suchych, nasłonecznionych miejscach porośniętych niską roślinnością, szczególnie na glebach piaszczystych, unika jednak jałowych wydm ruchomych.
