Taxon description
Gatunek występujący w środkowej części Europy, docierający na zachód do Szwajcarii i Francji, a na południe do Włoch, Dalmacji i Grecji; notowany poza tym z zachodniej części Azji. Chrząszcz termofilny — w krajach Europy Środkowej notowany wszędzie z nielicznych, rozproszonych stanowisk. W Polsce należy niewątpliwie do rzadkości. Pewne jego stanowiska stwierdzono w Niecce Nidziańskiej, gdzie pojedyncze okazy znaleziono 5 i 6 VI 1951 na murawach kserotermicznych (leg. A. Goljan), natomiast sprawdzenia oznaczeń wymagają 24 osobniki schwytane w rowki szeliniakowe przez J. Karczewskiego (1961). Z Pobrzeża Bałtyku i byłych Prus był notowany jedynie na podstawie wzmianki A. Dommera sprzed 130 lat, jednak wobec braku okazów dowodowych i nowych znalezisk A. Horion (1953) wątpi w jego występowanie na tym obszarze. Dawne ogólnikowe wzmianki o występowaniu w Galicji i Polsce opierają się na danych odnoszących się do stanowisk, leżących obecnie poza naszą granicą. Larwy drapieżne rozwijają się w glebie piaszczystej na nasłonecznionych zboczach.
