Gatunek obejmujący zasięgiem prawie całą Palearktykę od zachodnich wybrzeży Europy po Japonię. Tworzy trzy podgatunki, z których C. murraea ussurensis Spaeth zasiedla dorzecze Amuru i Japonię, C. murraea halophila Spaeth słone stepy wokół Morza Kaspijskiego, a podgatunek nominotypowy zajmuje pozostałą część areału. W Europie granica rozmieszczenia przebiega przez Wyspy Brytyjskie, południowe prowincje Szwecji i Finlandii oraz Karelię. W Polsce, mimo braku doniesień o jego występowaniu w 10 krainach, zapewne można go znaleźć wszędzie na terenach nizinnych i w niższych położeniach górskich. Żeruje na różnych gatunkach omanów — Inula L., zwłaszcza na omanie łąkowym — I. brittanica L. i omanie wierzbolistnym — I. salicina L., spotykany poza tym na płesznikach — Pulicaria Gaertn.
