Taxon description
Szeroko rozpowszechniony w całej Europie, na wschód przez Syberię docierający do Kraju Nadmorskiego. W Polsce jest najczęściej poławianym gatunkiem Cerylidae. Żyje pod odstającą zmurszałą korą, w przegrzybialyni drewnie drzew iglastych i liściastych, w chodnikach larw chrząszczy podkorowych, w starych hubach, w przegrzybiałych częściach mrowisk Formica rufa L., Lasius fuliginosus (Latr.) i L. brunneus (Latr.), poza tym znajdowany w pryzmach kompostowych oraz w glebie przemieszanej z gnijącym drewnem.
