Taxon description
Gatunek obejmujący zasięgiem zachodnią, południową i środkową część Europy, docierający na północ do Danii i południowych prowincji Szwecji. W Polsce spotykany niezbyt często na niżu i wyżynach. Występuje w miejscach suchych i nasłonecznionych — na polach, pastwiskach, ugorach, rumowiskach, zboczach, w środowiskach ruderalnych i piaszczystych laskach sosnowych. Roślinami żywicielskimi tego ryjkowca są: chroszcz nagołodygowy — Teesdalea nudicaulis (L.) R. Br., pieprzyca polna — Lepidium campestre (L.) R. Br. i pieprzyca gruzowa — L. ruderale L. W maju samica składa jaja w szypułkę owocka. W czerwcu-lipcu larwy żerują na niedojrzałych nasionach w łuszczynkach. W lipcu dorosłe larwy opuszczają miejsce żerowania, spadają na ziemię, gdzie przepoczwarczają się; młode imagines ukazują się po dwóch-trzech tygodniach.
