Gatunek obejmujący zasięgiem prawie całą Europę, granica północna rozsiedlenia przebiega przez Wyspy Brytyjskie, południowe prowincje Skandynawii, kraje nadbałtyckie i Wyżynę Rosyjską po dorzecze dolnej Wołgi, a granica południowa od Pirenejów wzdłuż północnej granicy obszaru uprawy oliwki aż po Kaukaz. W Polsce występuje od wybrzeży Bałtyku aż po Tatry, ale z niektórych krain jeszcze nie wykazywany. Łowiony od kwietnia do października. Jako roślina żywicielska larw podawany jest bluszczyk kurdybanek — Glechoma hederacea L., obserwowano też żerowanie chrząszczy na przytuliach — Galium L. i ostrożeniu lepkim — Cirsium erisithales (Jacq.) Scop.
