Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1992:
Gatunek obejmujący zasięgiem głównie środkową i północną część Europy oraz Syberię po Daleki Wschód, w Fennoskandii sięgający daleko poza koło podbiegunowe. Wgryzoń północny jest w Polsce rzadko znajdowany, notowany tylko z czterech krain. Głównym żywicielem jest świerk; niekiedy spotykany na sośnie i jałowcu. Chodnik macierzysty jamkowaty, przebiega prawie całkowicie w korze.
