Gatunek o zasięgu obejmującym prawie całą Europę, prócz części południowej Na północy sięga daleko poza koło podbiegunowe. Żyje na glebach wilgotnych i próchnicznych w lasach liściastych i mieszanych, znajdowany często pod mchem i w zmurszałych pniakach.
