Taxon description
Gatunek obejmujący zasięgiem prawie całą Europę z wyjątkiem jej skrajnych krańców północnych, notowany również z Azji Mniejszej i Kaukazu. W Polsce chrząszcz nadzwyczaj rzadko spotykany, znany dotychczas tylko ze Śląska Dolnego, a ostatnio odkryty na Roztoczu. Rozmieszczony na pewno szerzej, gdyż ogólnikowo jest także notowany z Pomorza i byłych Prus. Występuje na obszarach nizinnych i w niższych położeniach górskich, głównie w wodach stojących, rzadziej bieżących. Postacie dorosłe poławiane są często razem z D. anglicanus Edwards i D. auriculatus (Fourcroy), przeważnie w kępach sitów (Juncus L.) i turzyc (Carex L.).
