Taxon description
Gatunek zamieszkujący południową i środkową część Europy, notowany też z Finlandii i wschodnich krajów bałtyckich, przy czym w obrębie areału gatunkowego jest coraz częściej spotykany w miarę posuwania się z zachodu na wschód oraz z północy na południe. W Polsce występuje prawdopodobnie w całym kraju na terenach nizinnych i na podgórzach, brak jednak jeszcze udokumentowanych danych o jego rozmieszczeniu w niektórych krainach. Rozwój larwalny odbywa w miękkich owocnikach żółciaka siarkowego — Laetiporus sulphureus (Bull. ex Fr.) Murr., rosnącego na drzewach liściastych, zwłaszcza na starych dębach i wierzbach. Postacie dorosłe przezimowują w szczelinach zmurszałego drzewa i w dziuplach drzew.
