Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1983:
Gatunek szeroko rozpowszechniony w północnej części Palearktyki, w Europie docierający do najdalszych, kraików północnych, a w południowej części kontynentu lokalnie w górach do wysokości 1800-2300 111 m n.p.m. W Polsce występuje pospolicie na całym obszarze od wiosny do jesieni w ekskrementach koni, pod którymi buduje w ziemi pionowe chodniki dochodzące do około 40 cm głębokości. Rozwój larwalny trwa 12-13 miesięcy. Nowa generacja ukazuje się od końca czerwca do początku października.
