Gatunek często spotykany w Podobszarze Śródziemnomorskim, wykazywany również z południowej części Europy środkowej, Arabii i Iranu. W Polsce nie występuje; w ubiegłym stuleciu donoszono o jego złowieniu w Ostródzie na Mazurach i w byłych Prusach, lecz dane te są niewiarygodne. Najbliżej położone od naszych granic stanowiska są na Słowacji. Zarówno postacie dojrzałe, jak i larwy, żyją na ogórkach i innych dyniowatych, których liśćmi odżywiają się.
