Taxon description
Gatunek znany głównie z zachodniej i środkowej Europy, poza tym notowany z trzech południowych prowincji Norwegii. W Polsce chrząszcz rzadko spotykany. Występuje głównie na terenach górzystych i podgórskich, znajdowany w źródłach potoków i na rozlewiskach, zwłaszcza wśród mchu.
