Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1976:
Gatunek rozmieszczony głównie w południowej Europie, wykazywany również z Kaukazu, Azji Mniejszej i zachodniej Azji. Ze środkowej Europy znany z nielicznych, południowo-wschodnich stanowisk. W Polsce bardzo rzadko notowany. Według A. Horiona (1949) omyłkowo wykazany przez F. L. Lentza (1876) z Pojezierza Pomorskiego (Kaczynos pow. Malbork) na podstawie błędnie oznaczonego gatunku Hydrophilus caraboides (L.). Z uwagi na rozmieszczenie ogólne dane o występowaniu na Mazurach (Lentz 1866, Schilsky 1888, Reitter 1909) są niewiarygodne. Dane o występowaniu w Beskidzie Zachodnim oparte były na wzmiance E. Reittera sprzed przeszło stu laty, następnie wiadomość tę inni tylko powtarzali. Również inne doniesienia z Polski są czasowo odległe, wobec tego współczesne występowanie Hydrophilus flavipes Steven winno być potwierdzone nowymi doniesieniami. Warunki ekologiczne słabo poznane, u nas w kraju notowany z sadzawki na łące (Lgocki 1908).
