Taxon description
Gatunek zasiedlający zachodnią i środkową część Europy, docierający na południe do Włoch, Banatu i Siedmiogrodu. W Polsce chrząszcz mało znany — wykazywany tylko z czterech krain, przy czym ze Śląska Górnego notowany na podstawie znalezisk sprzed przeszło stu lat. Chrząszcze odbywają rozwój w twardym, wilgotnym drewnie, przeważnie buków, grabów i lip, rzadziej dębów. Larwy żerują w pniakach, w uszkodzonych miejscach na pniach stojących żywych drzew lub powalonych niedawno na ziemię. Chodniki larwalne przebiegają zwykle poprzecznie w stosunku do włókien drewna. Przepoczwarczenie następuje w maju w powierzchniowej warstwie drewna. Stadium poczwarki trwa około 10 dni. Szczyt pojawu postaci dojrzałych ma miejsce w czerwcu-lipcu. Samce wykazują dużą lotność. Samice składają jaja w szczeliny drewna i w otwory wyjściowe owadów. Chrząszcze są zwykle poławiane na drzewach lęgowych, na klocach drewna w sągach oraz na krzewach w sąsiedztwie drzew żywicielskich.
