Taxon description
Gatunek zamieszkujący prócz północnej części Fennoskandii prawie całą Europę, notowany również z Kaukazu, zawleczony do Ameryki Północnej. Żyje w ciemnych piwnicach pod domami mieszkalnymi oraz w innych pomieszczeniach gospodarczych, jak stare spichrze, komórki, stajnie itp. Spotykany nawet w śródmieściach wielkich miast, bardzo rzadko w jaskiniach oraz w dziuplach drzew zasiedlonych przez ptaki.
