Taxon description
Gatunek rozsiedlony w zachodniej i środkowej części Europy, przy tym w obszarze rozmieszczenia w miarę posuwania się na północ i wschód coraz rzadziej spotykany. W Polsce chrząszcz nadzwyczaj rzadki, notowany jedynie z pojedynczych stanowisk w trzech krainach. Występowanie na Pojezierzu Mazurskim wymaga potwierdzenia nowymi materiałami, gdyż dane z tego obszaru oparte są na chrząszczach znalezionych przed przeszło stu laty i nie zachowanych w zbiorach muzealnych. Występuje na obszarach nizinnych i pagórkowatych w nasłonecznionych wodach jezior, rzek i większych strumieni. Poławiany również, zwłaszcza wieczorem, na niskich roślinach nadbrzeżnych.
