Taxon description
Gatunek szeroko rozprzestrzeniony w prawie całej Europie oprócz północnej Fennoskandii i południowej części Półwyspu Bałkańskiego. Prawdopodobnie występuje w całej Polsce, ale nie znany jest jeszcze ze wszystkich krain; w miejscach pojawu przeważnie masowo znajdowany. Ten interesujący kusak myrmekofilny przechodzi swój rozwój w gniazdach Formica fusca L., skąd na jesieni wywędrowuje i zimuje w gniazdach Myrmica laevinodis Nyl. albo Myrmica rubra (L.). Na wiosnę powraca do gniazd F. fusca L., gdzie daje początek nowemu pokoleniu. Niekiedy spotykany bywa w gniazdach innych gatunków mrówek, jak na przykład Formica sanguinea Latr. i Polyergus rufescens (Latr.), ale tylko w tych przypadkach, gdy w ich mrowiskach występują «niewolnice» z gatunku Formica fusca L. Przypadkowo znajdowany bywa poza gniazdami mrówek — pod kamieniami, opadłym listowiem i wśród mchów.
