Taxon description
Gatunek rozsiedlony od Wysp Brytyjskich i południowych prowincji Fennoskandii do Pirenejów, Lombardii, Gór Dynarskich i Rodopów po Krym, na wschód przez Syberię docierający do Japonii. W Polsce występuje od Pobrzeży Bałtyku aż po Tatry. Zasiedla lasy wilgotne, wąwozy, zarośla, brzegi potoków i źródliska. Jako rośliny żywicielskie podawane były różne gatunki z rodziny złożonych — Compositae, głównie z rodzajów podbiał — Tussilago L., starzec — Senecio L. i lepiężnik — Petasites Mill. Nad potokami i rzeczkami górskimi spotykany pospolicie na liściach lepiężnika wyłysiałego — P. kablikianus Tausch i 1. białego — P. albus L.
