Taxon description
Szeroko rozprzestrzeniony w niemal całej Europie (nie znany z Wysp Brytyjskich i północno-zachodniej części Francji), sięgający na wschód przez Syberię aż po Daleki Wschód; notowany poza tym z Azji Mniejszej. Chrząszcz dość pospolity w całej Polsce, chociaż z niektórych obszarów jeszcze nie wykazywany. Występuje zarówno na terenach nizinnych, jak i górzystych, gdzie dociera do wysokości około 2000 m n.p.m. Rozwój odbywa w zmurszałym drewnie i pod obluźnioną korą pni i pniaków drzew liściastych. Postacie dojrzałe poławiano przeważnie na wilgotnych i zacienionych stanowiskach.
