Taxon description
Pospolity ten motyl pojawia się w wielu środowiskach od końca IV do początku VII i sporadycznie w drugim pokoleniu w VIII. Gąsienice różnie ubarwione: od zielonych do czarnobrązowych, żywią się liśćmi brzozy, iwy, dębu, olchy i różnych gatunków wierzb. Żerują od VI do VIII i w drugim pokoleniu od IX do połowy X. Przepoczwarczają się na okres zimowy płytko w ziemi.
