Taxon description
Gatunek rozsiedlony w środkowej i południowo-wschodniej części Europy, notowany ponadto z Azji Mniejszej i Bliskiego Wschodu. W Polsce wałczyk ten jest znany z nielicznych stanowisk, rozproszonych w południowej i zachodniej części kraju. Żyje w topoli białej — Populus alba L. i topoli czarnej — P. nigra L. Rozwój larwalny odbywa w martwych gałęziach starych drzew.
