Gatunek rozsiedlony od Hiszpanii aż do Grecji, na wschód sięga po Kaukaz i Turkiestan, a na północ po Francję, Szwajcarię, Anglię południową oraz południową część Europy środkowej. Wszędzie sporadycznie i rzadko poławiany. W Polsce notowany z niewielu krain, na ogół z pojedynczych stanowisk. Występuje na zboczach kserotermicznych i w suchych środowiskach, jak przydroża, miedze, nasypy kolejowe. Zamieszkuje tereny nizinne i przedgórza. Postacie dojrzałe pojawiają się wiosną. Rozwój larwalny odbywa w gniazdach pszczołowatych, gatunków z rodzaju Anthophora Latr.
