Gatunek szeroko rozprzestrzeniony w południowej i środkowej części Europy, notowany poza tym z Danii, Szwecji południowej oraz Syberii. W Polsce znany z nielicznych stanowisk rozmieszczonych głównie w zachodniej i południowej części kraju. Zasiedla tereny nizinne i niższe położenia górskie. Rozwój larwalny odbywa w rozkładającym się drewnie drzew liściastych. Pojaw postaci dojrzałych zaczyna się w czerwcu i trwa do września. Chrząszcze poławiano na suchych gałęziach krzewów, trawach oraz kwitnących głogach — Crataegus L., tawułach — Spiraea L. i świerząbku korzennym — Chaerophyllum aromaticum L.
