Gatunek rozprzestrzeniony od Hiszpanii, Francji i Włoch północnych przez całą Europę środkową aż do Wysp Brytyjskich i południowych prowincji Fennoskandii, notowany ponadto z Kaukazu i Dagestanu. W Polsce znany z nielicznych stanowisk w zachodniej i południowej części kraju. Zasiedla tereny nizinne i niższe położenia górskie. Występuje na pobrzeżach lasu, polanach śródleśnych, w starych parkach i ogrodach. Rozwój larwalny odbywa prawdopodobnie w martwym drewnie drzew liściastych. Chrząszcze poławiano w czerwcu i lipcu na suchych gałęziach wiązu i wierzby oraz na kwiatach wiązówki błotnej — Filipendula ulmaria (L.) Maxim., podagrycznika pospolitego — Aegopodium podagraria L., tawuł — Spiraea L. oraz roślin z rodziny baldaszkowatych (Umbelliferae).
