Taxon description
Gatunek zamieszkujący środkową i południową część Europy oraz południową część Syberii Zachodniej aż po Bajkał; notowany ponadto z Azji Mniejszej, przy czym w miarę posuwania się na północ areału gatunkowego coraz rzadziej spotykany. W Polsce znany z nielicznych rozproszonych stanowisk w różnych częściach kraju, ale z niektórych krain notowany na podstawie danych sprzed przeszło stu lat, toteż wymagają one potwierdzenia nowymi materiałami. Omyłkowo został wykazany z Wisły przez K. Stefka (1939) na podstawie błędnego oznaczenia Limonius aeneoniger (Deg.) (B. Burakowski*). Chrząszcz ciepłolubny, zasiedlający tereny nizinne i niższe położenia górskie. Występuje głównie w świetlistych lasach liściastych i w ich otoczeniu, zwłaszcza na zboczach kserotermicznych. Bionomia jest poznana niedostatecznie. Larwy odbywają rozwój w glebie. Postacie dojrzałe poławiano od maja do lipca na trawach, roślinach zielnych, krzewach i drzewach.
