Gatunek o zasięgu ograniczonym głównie do obszarów górzystych w środkowej części Europy, we Francji, północnych Włoszech i Jugosławii; najdalej na północ wysunięte, izolowane stanowiska leżą w Danii i Holandii. W Polsce po raz pierwszy ogólnikowo wzmiankowany ze Śląska przez J. Schilsky'ego i na tej podstawie podawany później z tego obszaru przez innych autorów. O występowaniu na Śląsku wątpi A. Horion (1967). Ostatnio znaleziony w Bieszczadach. Zasiedla miejsca piaszczyste i zacienione na pobrzeżach rzek i strumieni, gdzie przeważnie znajdowany jest pod napływkami i rozkładającymi się szczątkami roślinnymi, również wśród wilgotnych mchów i korzeni roślin wodnych.
