Taxon description
Gatunek znany głównie z południowej i środkowej części Europy, ponadto notowany z Kaukazu, Danii i pojedynczych południowych prowincji Szwecji i Finlandii. Rozmieszczenie słabo poznane, gdyż trudny do odróżnienia od Ocalea picata (Stephens). Z Polski wykazany zaledwie z pięciu południowych krain — niedawno znaleziony w Bieszczadach. Zamieszkuje głównie tereny pagórkowate i górzyste, gdzie sięga do strefy subalpejskiej; na terenach nizinnych bardzo rzadko i sporadycznie spotykany. Kusak wilgociolubny, występujący w strefie rozprysku wody, w sąsiedztwie wysięków i źródeł oraz brzegów potoków, strumieni i rzek.
