Taxon description
Gatunek rozprzestrzeniony prawie w całej Europie (nie znany z północnej części Skandynawii i Bałkanu południowego), notowany nadto z Algierii i Kaukazu. W Polsce chrząszcz wykazywany z nielicznych stanowisk w południowej części kraju, niedawno odkryty w Puszczy Białowieskiej. Zasiedla lasy liściaste i mieszane na terenach nizinnych i w niższych położeniach górskich. Cykl rozwojowy dwuletni. Larwy żerują w przerośniętym grzybnią drewnie pni, pieńków i martwych gałęzi drzew liściastych. W zależności od warunków klimatycznych przepoczwarczenie odbywa się w czerwcu — sierpniu. Postacie dojrzałe przezimowują.
