Taxon description
Gatunek szeroko rozsiedlony od Japonii przez Syberię i północno-wschodnią Europę po Wyspy Brytyjskie oraz zachodnią i środkową część Europy. W Polsce, chociaż nie jest notowany jeszcze z wielu krain, występuje prawdopodobnie na całym obszarze z wyjątkiem wyższych partii górskich. Zasiedla lasy, gaje, zręby leśne, torfowiska i wilgotne wrzosowiska. Żyje na brzozie brodawkowatej — Betula verrucosa Ehrh., brzozie omszonej — B. pubescens Ehrh. i woskownicy europejskiej — Myrica gale L. Samica składa jaja najczęściej do środkowego nerwu liścia. Larwa żywi się miękiszem liścia, wygryzając w nim szeroką minę, docierającą niekiedy do krawędzi; przepoczwarcza się w kulistym kokonie sporządzonym w środkowej części miny.
