Taxon description
Szeroko rozmieszczony gatunek od Japonii i Azji Wschodniej, poprzez Syberię i Fennoskandię docierający w Europie do krajów Śródziemnomorskich. W Polsce oprócz wyższych partii górskich występuje na całym obszarze, nie notowany jednak jeszcze z pięciu krain. Zasiedla widne miejsca w lasach liściastych, gajach, na brzegach lasu, zrębach, bagnach i wrzosowiskach. Żyje na brzozie brodawkowatej — Betula verrucosa Ehrh. i brzozie omszonej — B. pubescens Ehrh. W maju samica składa jaja w miękiszu wierzchołkowej części liścia, gdzie młoda larwa wygryza szeroki chodnik wzdłuż brzegów, następnie już jako larwa dorosła drąży minę obok nerwu środkowego i w końcowej części ją poszerza. Przed przepoczwarczeniem buduje komorę szerokości 5-20 mm, wycina wokół okrągławą płytkę z górnej i dolnej części oskórka, spaja po brzegach te połówki i spada z nimi na ziemię. Niekiedy w jednym liściu występują dwie miny. Przeobrażenie w poczwarkę następuje w lipcu.
