Taxon description
Gatunek zamieszkujący zachodnią, południową i środkową część Europy, sięgający na północ do Danii i południowych prowincji Szwecji, a na wschód do Ukrainy i Kaukazu. Wszędzie rzadko i sporadycznie spotykany. W Polsce chrząszcz notowany z nielicznych rozproszonych stanowisk w różnych częściach kraju, przy czym dane z niektórych krain opierają się na znaleziskach sprzed przeszło 70 lat. Bionomia tego gatunku jest poznana fragmentarycznie. Rozwój larwalny trwa kilka lat. Opadane są pnie i grube gałęzie drzew liściastych, przede wszystkim drzew naświetlonych słońcem, stojących na pobrzeżach lasu, na przesiekach oraz pojedynczo w parkach i alejach. Jako drzewa żywicielskie larw podawano wiązy — Ulmus L. dęby — Quercus L. i buk — Fagus L. Postacie dojrzałe ukazują się w maju i spotykano je do połowy lipca na pniach i pieńkach różnych drzew liściastych, na kwitnących krzewach, jak dereń świdwa — Cornus sanguinea L., śliwa tarnina — Prunus spinosa L., głogi — Crataegus L., róże — Rosa L. oraz na kwiatostanach baldaszkowatych — Umbelliferae. W czasie pięknej, słonecznej pogody obserwowano loty wokół koron dębów.
