Taxon description
Heintze 1990:
Gatunek wszędzie spotykany i bardzo pospolity. Motyl lata od VI do IX. Gąsienice, żerujące na komosach, łobodach i rzadziej na bylicy pospolitej, do ostatniego linienia mają barwę zieloną z jasnozielonym rysunkiem. Po ostatnim linieniu barwa ciała staje się oliwkowozielona z ciemniejszym rysunkiem i jasnożółtymi plamami. Młode gąsienice prowadzą całkowicie nadziemny tryb życia, dorosłe żerują nocą, dzień spędzając często ukryte płytko w ziemi obok łodyg rośliny żywicielskiej lub schowane przed światłem dziennym w gęstwie liści. Na zimę gąsienice zakopują się w ziemi, gdzie przeobrażają się w brązowe poczwarki o charakterystycznych kształtach.
