Taxon description
Gatunek szeroko rozmieszczony w środkowej Europie oraz w północnej części południowej Europy, na zachód dochodzący do środkowej i południowej Francji, na wschód przez Syberię sięgający aż do Japonii, poza tym wykazywany z Ameryki Północnej. Według A. Horiona (1965) w ubiegłym wieku częściej spotykany. W Polsce jest nadzwyczaj rzadko znajdowanym chrząszczem, znanym tylko z trzech stanowisk. Poza tym według A. Horiona (1939) w zbiorze K. Letznera znajdują się dwa stare okazy jakoby pochodzące z Wrocławia, ale ani K. Letzner, ani J. Gerhardt nie uwzględniali omawianego gatunku w wykazach chrząszczy śląskich, a i sam A. Horion uważa wymienione stanowisko za wątpliwe. Gatunek leśny, żerujący głównie w dużych, miękkich, gnijących grzybach, jak gołąbek czarniawy — Russula nigricans (Bull.) Fr., mleczaj biel — Lactarius piperatus (Scop.) Fr. i gąsówka naga — Lepista nuda (Bull. ex Fr.) W. G. Smith. Niekiedy znajdowany również pod wilgotną odstającą korą porośniętą grzybnią oraz na wyciekającym soku z drzew, wśród mchów i opadłych liści przesiąkniętych takim sokiem.
