Taxon description
Gatunek palearktyczny rozprzestrzeniony w prawie całej Europie, w Fennoskandii przekraczający daleko koło podbiegunowe, notowany nadto z Ameryki Północnej. W Polsce rzadko i sporadycznie spotykany, przy tym niektóre dane mogą się odnosić do innego gatunku — Paragabrius micantoides Benick et Lohse, z Polski nie wykazywanego, lecz bardzo podobnego i niedawno wyróżnionego. Występuje na miejscach szlamistych nad rzekami i jeziorami, na terenach bagiennych i w olszynach.
